Allegany County Designated as a Healthcare Shortage Area
Millions of Americans do not have access to health care because they
live where there are not enough health professionals to meet basic
needs. Shortages of health professionals suggest many more may soon find
themselves unable to see a primary health care provider when they need
one. Many areas of upstate New York are designated as a Healthcare Shortage Area based on geography and number of healthcare providers or facilities. Allegany County is designated a Healthcare Shortage Area in both primary care, dental and mental health by the US Department of Health and Human Services: Health Resources and Services Administration.
